Programme profile
The programme will enhance your understanding of various narrative, poetic and dramatic conventions; enlarge your critical vocabulary and historical awareness; and explore how the study of literature intersects with questions of gender, politics and cultural theory.
Programme content
You will study themes, forms, theories and contexts of literature from around the world and from Anglo-Saxon to contemporary times, choosing from around 60 modules, which are taught through lectures, workshops and seminars. Modules include:
First Year: Literature in Context; Coming-of-Age Fiction; Literary Genre
Second Year: Core courses in: Medieval Literature; Critical Theory; Renaissance Literature; Romantic Literature; Irish Literature; American Literature; Victorian Literature
Third Year: Reading Ulysses; Shakespeare from Stage to Screen; Fin de Si
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. Others must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects above must include:English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
